1958 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster

Important to note that Roadster 00204 has just recently undergone the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center's 2017 "Manufacturer's Expert Assessment: Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster 198 042 85 00204" produced after weeks' long examining and testing in Fellbach, Germany. This was the first evaluation done for a Roadster according to MB records. The car passed with flying colors and all its original major components and factory stampings were confirmed to be correct and come fully documented in an over 60 page binder. The binder documents the car in all regards and is a treasure to have and is, to our knowledge, the only 300SL Roadster to have this book.

This exquisite example was delivered on April 3, 1958 and presumably exported on German customs plates by a German owner who lived in Spain. Original colors were light blue with a cream leather interior.
In 1960 the car was sold to Don Jesus Lozao Pardo who actually became the local Mercedes-Benz dealer in La Corũna (Galicia, northern Spain). It appears that during this time of ownership the standard drum brakes were upgraded to disc brakes all-round by using factory OEM parts. In all probability this likely happened circa 1962/63 when the factory themselves began equipping and selling their late production 300SLs with disc brakes.
By 1989 ownership had passed to Angel Jove Capellán who was founder of the Spanish Anjoca Real Estate Company. He had the car restored to his desired color combination of Ivory white with a black leather. During his ownership the 300 SL was also exhibited in the private museum he helped to found, namely The Museo de Automocion e Historia de La Coruna.
In September 2014 the car was brokered to the highly regarded German specialists HK Engineering and in turn they sold it to the current custodian.
HK Engineering were also entrusted to perform a restoration of the car (photographs of this work and receipts are all on file) and it was painted to a color combination that is very close to the original. The blue chosen has a very slightly different shade from the original and is actually the same color that Mercedes-Benz used on their 1958 Paris Show roadster at the launch of the hardtop version.
Since the restoration was completed the car has been shown twice and both times it won major class awards. Mileage today is showing 52,778 and believed to be from new.
